Positioning of earmold

eng_correct_position

Earmold is an important element in a hearing aid fitting. The earmold serves at least 2 functions

  1. To hold the hearing aid in place and anchor it to the ear
  2. To provide an acoustic seal to ensure good transmission of sound.

In the image above we see the earmold in the proper position on the left and the earmold in the wrong position on the right.

When the earmold is not placed correctly, the user will feel discomfort because of pressure on the areas which should not receive the pressure. In the long term, pressure sores will develop. As such, learning to insert the earmold properly is an integral part of hearing aid orientation.
