Welcome To Malacca
...where it all began
"Selamat datang ke Melaka" is a greeting in Bahasa Malaysia. It is said that to have visited Malacca is to have visit Malaysia. Historical records have it that
The word "Melaka" is taken from a tree known as Pokok Melaka. Legend has it that Parameswara, a prince from Indonesia came over to Malacca and witnessed a strange event. He saw a mouse deer outsmart a tiger and kicked the tiger into the river. When he enquired about the name of the tree he was resting under, he was told that it was Malacca Tree. The current English spelling for my hometown "Malacca", came from the British.
